LOUDER PLEASE.

THE NEW SCHOOL OF PADDLING IS OFFICIALLY IN SESSION.

The old day's of surfski's are the stuff of legends; Tippy, ocean going slivers of carbon fiber reserved for the frozen chosen of the paddling elite. You likely know the types; they have quirky accents, sport Olympic medals for jewelry and as toddlers they wore speedos instead of diapers.

I am none of those things. I wasn't raised in the ocean by nursing on great white sharks. I don't personally know Magnum PI and I didn't pen Laird's favorite tattoos. My first kayak was an inflatable. With pedals. I didn't start with great natural balance, but I've learned that balance isn't as important when the focus shifts to connection. Connection with the water, your surfski, your mind and the world around you. It's what makes paddling a surfski so manically, magical. Even for those of us who don't speak dolphin.

Thankfully, we're not alone.

If you want to learn a new sport and feel the exhilaration of surfing open water wind waves, the team at Epic Kayaks has put together a revolutionary line of surfski's for people just like us (aka mortals!). Even better, we partnered with Deep Cove Kayak in nearby Vancouver BC to offer the entire line of Epic Surfskis and accessories right here in Bellingham.

If you'd like to arrange a personal demo or private lessons, feel free to contact me.

The Epic V5 opens up a whole new world to performance paddling. Excellent stability makes it easy for anyone to jump in and go. Sleek lines and Epic’s comfortable surfski cockpit make it fun for all. Epic’s proprietary foam core construction creates stiffness unmatched in plastic kayaks. The V5 comes standard with under hull rudder, adjustable foot brace (including pedals that automatically adjust line length), rear storage compartment, bow and stern plus center carry handles, water bottle holder and Epic’s patented bailer. An optional stern kick up rudder can be added (no modifications needed) to allow the V5 to be paddled in shallow or rocky areas.

Rotomolded kayaks have traditionally been heavy and difficult to handle, both on and off the water. The new Epic V7 breaks that mold and sets a new standard for rotomold performance. It is lightweight, extremely efficient, and easy to handle. The V7 is outfitted with the same high quality fittings as every surfski in the Epic lineup, including our carbon fiber footboard and pedals and the hugely popular Epic designed bailer. In addition, it features an aft storage compartment with a lightweight, waterproof hatch that puts the V7 in a class of its own. The 17’ x 21” V7 adds a whole new dimension. It offers similar stability to the V8 with the increased durability of a polyethylene kayak. Its capability can be further enhanced with the optional kick up rudder (no modification needed). This combination allows the V7 to be paddled in areas where composites cannot.

Epic V8 With a hull design featuring specs of 18’ x 21.25”, the V8 is unique in its class. Fast, yet extremely stable, this is a surfski that most kayakers should be able to hop right onto and paddle off. The deck features all the surfski simplicity of the V10 and V12, the main components being a fully adjustable footbrace and rear deck bungees. The V8 also incorporates some new features that add to its user friendly appeal: molded in bow & stern carry handles, and a water bottle holder in the cockpit. Venturi drain, breather tube and Epic surfski rudder configurations are standard. Our goal with the V8 is to provide a boat that bridges the gap between sea kayaks and surfskis. By blending speed, high stability and a performance oriented deck & outfitting, the V8 offers new levels of accessibility and opportunity. Fitness paddlers and racers who want extra emphasis on stability, touring kayakers looking to make the transition to high performance surfskis, or cruisers looking for a simple, efficient boat for a day on the water. The V8 will take you there.

Epic V10 Designed from the ground up by Oscar Chalupsky, Greg Barton, and computer whiz John Dixon, the Epic V10 is incredibly fast and agile while maintaining comfortable stability. While we met our goal of designing a boat that is faster than the competition on flat water, the Epic V10 really shines in downwind and upwind heavy sea conditions.A fully adjustable footbrace combines with a high-capacity venturi drain to keep water out. The single footwell and front deck cutaway allow for a closer, more powerful stroke. The adjustable footbrace with self-adjusting pedals will accommodate paddlers from 5’3” to 6’7” in height. A smaller paddler would be better served by our V10L surf ski model.

Epic V10L The new Epic V10 has been the most successful all around surf ski over the past year - getting rave reviews from advanced level paddlers for its speed, handling, ergonomics and stability. With the new, redesigned V10L we’ve taken that winning combination and optimized the hull for paddlers 75 kg (165 lbs) and under. The cockpit of the new Epic V10L also accommodates shorter leg lengths than the V10.

The new Epic V12 is designed to be the ultimate downwind machine for elite level paddlers. The updated design has more rocker, a reconfigured cockpit for a dryer ride and a more responsive rudder position, all while keeping a hint of extra stability over our V14. After testing several prototypes in locations around the world, we feel this is the best surfski for elite, open-water paddling, especially in big downwind. The V12 is faster than the V10 on flatwater and is a good choice for those looking to move up. Highly skilled elite level paddlers with perfect stability skills will find the V14 slightly faster on flat water. But as soon as the wind and waves pick up the new V12 will be their weapon of choice. Mere mortals who want a really fast boat on flat water that can also handle rough stuff will find a good fit in the new Epic V12. The stability is similar to the original V12. It is noticeably more stable than the V14, but less stable than the Epic V10. The new V12 is faster than the V10, but not quite as fast as the V14 (for a highly skilled paddler). It has similar flatwater speed to the original V12, but is far superior in surf conditions.

The Epic V14 is designed to be the fastest surfski on the market for mid sized water conditions. We’ve pulled out all the stops to go beyond the V10 and V12 with an even sleeker shape and narrower waterline. The bow of the V14 is much narrower compared to the rest of the Epic ski line. This helps the V14 knife through wind chop & small waves.
